One of the most common questions we receive from prospective students is: "Should I choose IJMB or JUPEB?" Both are excellent pathways to direct entry admission into 200-level, but they have important differences.
What is JUPEB?
The Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board (JUPEB) is an advanced-level programme coordinated by the University of Lagos. It is accepted by over 50 universities across Nigeria.
What is IJMB?
The Interim Joint Matriculation Board (IJMB) is coordinated by Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria. It is primarily accepted by northern universities but its acceptance is growing nationwide.
Key Differences
| Feature | JUPEB | IJMB |
|---|---|---|
| Coordinating Body | UNILAG | ABU Zaria |
| Duration | 9–12 months | 9–12 months |
| Universities | 50+ nationwide | ABU + affiliates |
| JAMB Required? | Not for admission | Not required |
| Entry Level | 200-level | 200-level |
| Fees at Legacy Scholar | N350,000–N500,000 | N300,000–N450,000 |
Which Should You Choose?
Choose JUPEB if you want admission into universities in the South, prefer a widely accepted certificate, and want the broadest range of university options. Choose IJMB if you are targeting ABU or northern universities, want a slightly more affordable option, or prefer the IJMB examination structure.
