How to Score 300+ in JAMB — A Complete Study Guide

Mr. Bakare December 15, 2024 10 min read

Scoring 300 and above in JAMB UTME is the dream of every serious candidate. At Legacy Scholar, our students consistently achieve this goal — here's how you can too.

Step 1: Know the Exam Format

  • 4 subjects (Use of English + 3 relevant subjects)
  • 60 questions per subject (except English which has 60)
  • 2 hours total time
  • Computer-Based Test (CBT) format

Step 2: Master Use of English First

English is compulsory and often the most underestimated subject. Focus on comprehension, lexis and structure, oral English, and literature texts.

Step 3: Create a Subject-Priority Study Plan

Rank your subjects by difficulty and allocate study time accordingly: weakest subject 40% of study time, second weakest 30%, strongest subjects 30%.

Step 4: Use Past Questions Strategically

Don't just solve past questions — analyse them. Identify topics that appear every year, note the style of questions, time yourself to build speed, and review every wrong answer thoroughly.

Step 5: CBT Practice is Non-Negotiable

Many students lose marks due to CBT anxiety, not lack of knowledge. Practice on the official JAMB CBT platform, in our 50-seat CBT lab, and with mobile CBT apps.

Step 6: Mock Exams Under Real Conditions

At Legacy Scholar, we conduct weekly mock exams that simulate actual JAMB conditions. This builds speed and accuracy, exam temperament, and confidence.

Step 7: Exam Day Tips

  • Sleep well the night before
  • Arrive at the centre 1 hour early
  • Read each question twice before answering
  • Answer easy questions first
  • Don't change answers unless you're sure
  • Use the review feature before submitting

Success Stories

  • Emeka Obi: 356 (started at 180 in mock tests)
  • Hassan Yusuf: 342 (improved from 210 in 3 months)
  • Grace Nwankwo: 338 (first-time JAMB candidate)

With dedication and the right guidance, 300+ is achievable. Register for our JAMB prep class today!
